David Estrada is a Honduran filmmaker focused on telling stories that bring hope back to humanity. His work as a cinematographer has led him to film stories throughout the Americas and beyond. Though his career began in fiction, David eventually found his real passion in filming documentaries.

As a cameraman, David’s work has taken him face-to-face with commonly dangerous Latin American scenarios including gang wars, drug trafficking, and general violence. These experiences have brought him closer to his roots and motivated him to try to understand the “why” behind these social anomalies. David is driven by finding beauty where most assume there is a lack thereof.

David has worked on productions for Bloomberg Originals, The Weather Channel, Netflix, HBO, Vice News, CNBC, Amnesty International, and many others. Currently, he is directing a feature documentary that explores the jagged intersection of global policy and environmental collapse, documenting how a century of exploitation has left Latin America uniquely vulnerable to the warming of our world. This project was selected for development by the American Film Institute, the State Department, and won big at DOC NYC’s Pitch Day, including winning a grant from the Andrew Berends Foundation. In 2025, David was also awarded a grant by the Honduran Film Institute (IHCINE), providing critical support for the film’s ongoing production. David has worked with Red Queen Media in the capacities of cinematographer and editor for seven years. He is based in Toronto and Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
